Professor Abbas Jamalipour

Biography

Abbas Jamalipour is a Fellow of IEEE, IEICE, and Engineers Australia, a Professional Member of ACM, and an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Nagoya University, Japan. He is the author of six technical books, nine book chapters, and over 300 technical papers in scholarly journals and international conferences, all in the area of wireless networks. He is the Professor of Ubiquitous Mobile Networking and leads the Wireless Networking Group (WiNG) at the University of Sydney, Australia. His top 20 publications have attracted over 1400 citations (h-index: 23) as of 31/12/2011.

He was the Editor-in-Chief IEEE Wireless Communications and currently he is an editor for several scholarly journals. He is the Vice President - Conferences, IEEE Communications Society. Previously he has held positions of the Chair of the Communication Switching and Routing and the Satellite and Space Communications Technical Committees and the Vice Director of the Asia Pacific Board, in IEEE Communications Society. He was the General Chair IEEE WCNC2010, and has been a technical chair for several IEEE ICC, GLOBECOM, WCNC and PIMRC conferences. He is the Technical Program Chair of the IEEE PIMRC2012 and IEEE ICC2014, both to be held in Sydney. Professor Jamalipour is a voting member of the IEEE Communications Society Board of Governors, Education Board, Conference Boards, and the On-Line Contents Board. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards such as the 2011 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Best Paper Award, the 2010 IEEE ComSoc Harold Sobol Award for Exemplary Service to Meetings & Conferences, the 2006 IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Contribution to Satellite Communications Award, and the 2006 IEEE ComSoc Best Tutorial Paper Award.

He disseminated the fundamental concepts of the next generation networks and convergence networks as well as the integration of WLAN and cellular networks; some of which are being gradually deployed by industry and included in the ITU-T standards. He holds two international patents in the field of wireless communications. His teaching and research are in the field of wireless data communication networks, wireless IP networks, next generation mobile networks, network security, and satellite systems. Dr Jamalipour has multiple Visiting Professor positions at prestigous universities across Asia and Europe.
